Each of our providers has a driving passion to establish long-term relationships with their respective patients and we take special pride in the retention rate we have experienced with the majority of our patients--relationships that span years and persist through life's invariable up's and down's. This special relationship allows us to learn not only the facts of your mental health history (symptoms and diagnoses as well as socioeconomic environment) but to also learn the subtle and nuanced ways in which your mood and functionality respond to immediate events and stressors. This also better informs us regarding when, if, and how a treatment plan change should be made as our overall goal extends beyond reduction in symptom burden and aims to improve your overall quality of life.
Our providers also possess a genuine desire to help you succeed in all areas of your life--whether it is in relationships, academics, work, or other performance related activities such as athletics, exams, or career building. To accomplish this, Dr. Calzada utilizes multiple modes of evidence-based support which allows him to help you identify errors-of-thinking or patterns of behavior that may hinder you from achieving success and wellness. While medication is a valuable tool, they are not necessary for everyone to achieve improved mental wellness. Our providers will listen, evaluate, and collaborate with you to develop the best strategy for treatment options to help you become happier and healthier in your life.
Telemedicine, also known as Telepsychiatry or Telehealth, is the process of providing mental health care services from a distance through any smart device with a camera and microphone. This highly flexible and real-time online solution has been shown to overcome barriers to mental health services caused by distance between patient and provider, access to reliable transportation, fragmentation of care due to gaps in time between appointments, and lack of local available providers. A strong provider-patient relationship is the foundation for high-quality patient care and with telemedicine mental health providers can evaluate and care for patients in a fashion similar to an in-person encounter, with some limitations, while still providing the flexibility and convenience of seeing patients remotely for follow up visits, therapy, and medication management when appropriate or necessary. From the American Psychiatric Association (APA) website: "Telepsychiatry is equivalent to in-person care in diagnostic accuracy, treatment effectiveness, quality of care and patient satisfaction. Patient privacy and confidentiality are equivalent to in-person care."
Our practice uses QbTest, one of the widest FDA cleared medical devices that provides objective data for diagnosing and treating ADHD for patients ages 6-60. QbTest is a computer-based program that combines a test of attention ability with a movement analysis based on an infrared measurement system. A typical test lasts no more than 15-20 minutes. Test results are assembled into a report and compared with data from a control group consisting of people who are the same sex and age as yourself. This way you can see how you react when you concentrate on a task in comparison with people who do not have ADHD.
QbTest is the only test in the world cleared by the FDA for this use, and Round Rock Psychiatry is revolutionizing your care by being one of the only treatment centers in all of Texas using this technology.
Assessing ADD/ADHD may be complicated and there is no single clinical tool that can provide all the answers. The QbTest provides objective data that together with other information will help your clinician assess you for ADD/ADHD.
QbTest provides a valuable baseline measurement that can help to evaluate any future changes in your activity, attention and impulsivity. QbTest is the only device cleared by the FDA to monitor how a patient is responding to treatment, which can aid in your clinician’s ability to monitor and track your response over time. Having a tool that can provide such insight into diagnoses and treatment options enables your provider to customize your treatment like never before!
The QbTest revolutionizes ADD/ADHD treatment and we are proud to be one of the only private practices in Texas to offer diagnosis, treatment and monitoring services utilizing the objective data QbTest provides. The Swedish based company, QbTech, has proudfully collaborated with our clinic to offer the most complete ADD/ADHD treatment program in Texas. By utilizing the FDA approved QbTest together with clinical evaluation, we can diagnose ADHD with a high degree of certainty, and for the first time monitor the effectiveness of medication and counselling treatment programs.
Think you might have ADHD? Email us for an appointment today and learn more about QbTest and how we can assist you in your journey to a richer, more effective life!
Distance and travel time between patients and providers can limit access to care. Fortunately, telemedicine can overcome geographic barriers to healthcare, especially for mental health providers. Telemedicine can be particularly beneficial for patients in medically underserved communities and those in rural geographical locations where clinician shortages exist. Also, telemedicine can reduce time away from work as appointments can be accomplished during breaks or lunch hours.

Thank you for your consideration as your next provider. I appreciate that it is difficult to find the right fit for your mental health concerns. One of the main concerns I have heard over the years is that patients do not feel heard when they reach out for help. I have carried this with me throughout my career. I spend the time to truly listen and understand your concerns. I work with you to identify a treatment plan you are comfortable with. The outcomes are better if you trust your provider and you work together to achieve symptom remission. I provide medication management and supportive therapy when needed. I also provide psychiatric assessments and clearance letters for bariatric surgery. I am a firm believer in the love of pets as they provide emotional support and I am able to provide ESA (emotional support animal) letter as well.
I started my career in psychiatry as a psychiatric registered nurse in 2013. I cared for people in crisis in this role for many years before becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2019. I have attended Texas A&M University (TAMUCC), Wilkes University and Cornell University for my education. I am an ANCC certified nurse practitioner. In addition, I am a certified ADHD clinical services professional and specialize in managing adult ADHD. I also teach other nursing students as an adjunct professor at TAMUCC. I also continue to help other nurse practitioner students as a volunteer preceptor. I have served as a content expert for the American Psychiatric Nurse’s Association as well. I work tirelessly to continue my education to be the best provider I can be and continue to give back to my community. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner I have worked with adults and seniors in both outpatient and acute care settings. I am a Texas resident and see patients throughout the state via telemedicine.
Specialties include:
Depression * Anxiety * Adult ADHD * Bipolar Disorder * Sleep disorders * OCD * PTSD
Binge eating Disorder * Wellness counseling and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Emotional Support Letters * Psychiatric Clearance Letters for Bariatric Surgery
I am a dual-certified family and mental health nurse practitioner. I have a background as a mental health nurse working with mental health patients of all ages since 2013. It was there I found my passion in the mental health field. I am so excited our society is finally shedding more light on these issues. There has been a stigma for far too long. I firmly believe that mental health disorders are one of the most difficult diseases to live with and can impact so many aspects of our lives. Disorders such as depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders can lead to poor physical health and I am here to help prevent this from happening! My goal as your NP is to provide professional, compassionate, and evidence-based care. I will determine if there truly is a mental health disorder that requires medication and together we will come up with an individualized treatment plan that we both agree upon and feel comfortable with. I provide a calm and comfortable space where you will feel safe and heard.
Dr. Calzada is a licensed Texas physician who utilizes the biopsychosocial model of disease. This model, which is both a philosophy and a clinical guide, takes a systematic and holistic approach to look at the whole person rather than just the disease itself. This allows Dr. Calzada to examine all factors that may contribute to mental health issues including biological factors such as genetic traits that run in families and also may include co-existing diseases such as hypertension or diabetes; psychological factors such as stress and trauma; and social factors such as relationships, finances, housing and socioeconomic standing. Further, this approach allows for tailored treatment plans to meet the specific needs of each unique patient.
Dr. Calzada began his academic career at the University of Texas in Arlington where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. From there he was accepted into the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, the oldest school of medicine in Texas, founded in 1891. During his medical school years Dr. Calzada was the recipient of the Carl J. Herzog scholarship for academic excellence and won a 2011 Practice of Medicine Essay Award in Oslerian Medicine. The annual winners are hand-selected by the Osler Scholars in the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine for creating an outstanding composition demonstrating a humane and compassionate attitude toward patient care. Upon graduating from UTMB school of medicine and having his Doctor of Medicine degree conferred upon him, Dr. Calzada matched into the University of Texas Dell Seton Psychiatry residency program where he spent time (2014-2016) training at multiple sites including UMC Brackenridge, Brackenridge emergency department, Dell Children's hospital, Seton Mind Institute, Shoal Creek psychiatric hospital, and the Texas Child Study Center. Dr. Calzada also spent time at the Austin VA outpatient clinic where he worked with veterans struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD and other mental health issues.
"My pledge to you: I will actively listen to your unique story--what is troubling you, what is impairing you and what is distressing you. I will work in collaboration with you primarily to discover what your personal goals are for treatment and then secondarily to formulate a mutually-agreed upon strategy for treatment, for achieving your goals. I will do this with empathy and compassion; I will do this with all dignity, respect and complete confidentiality; and I will do this without judgment or assumption." --Israel C. Calzada, MD
